Hi All. A quick note. Both your boats are safe and well and have weathered the Cat4 Cyclone no problems. Salena looks like she lost a couple of handrail covers but that is all. La Gitana looks all good. Apparently a boat that moored ahead of Salena received a couple of prods from Salena's anchor but no problem. The cyclone was big indeed and passed just east of Taveuni but with hurricane force winds to a radius of 120km (i.e. here in Savusavu). Forecast was av speeds of 95kn rising to 110 with gusts to 150kn i.e. bloody windy. Here in the harbour was very well sheltered from the brunt of the E/SE on approach - lots of extremely strong williwaws off the hills that put yacht rails in the water but the steady wind was gale-storm only. The SW/W that came later brought some significant chop and steady strong gale to storm with some stronger gusts but nothing like they were getting closer to the eye. Vanuabalavu must have been/are being hammered. Lots of damage but only quietened in the last 3 hours so yet to see worst. Stella Rosa (40T ferrocement motorsailor) is up on the reef after miraculously missing the moored boats, lots of sunk open boats and dingies.
